Many people watch cat videos on social media like YouTube and Instagram and think, "I want to own a cat someday." And for those who already own cats, finding a home where both they and their feline friends can live comfortably is no easy task. Furthermore, some of you might even be thinking, "I want to live in a share house with my cat."
In response to these requests, Roopt has installed a catwalk in a room at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture! What's more, this catwalk was made through a DIY workshop with local cat lovers! Please take a look at the completed catwalk in this article, along with a full account of the DIY workshop held in January 2023.

Mr. Yamauchi is an upcycled furniture artist based in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. With the concept of "making the most of what exists and enjoying life," he creates furniture by combining discarded materials and transforms disused furniture into stylish, reusable pieces through painting. Recently, he has started offering personal workshops for furniture painting and DIY, making him a go-to person for anything related to furniture.

Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka is a share house located near Hiyoriyama Park, which offers a panoramic view of Ishinomaki City. It operates in a renovated two-story former company dormitory. It consists of four units: Room 101 (3DK), Room 102 (2DK), Room 201 (3DK), and Room 202 (2DK). You can use one private room within each unit, or you can rent an entire unit for yourself.
It is a highly flexible share house where you can enjoy a lifestyle similar to that of a rental apartment, even though it is a share house.

This time, with Mr. Yamauchi as the instructor, we held a DIY workshop to create a catwalk and install it in the living room of Room 101 at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka. Six cat lovers living in Ishinomaki City and the surrounding areas participated.
Here is the image Mr. Yamauchi created for this occasion. It's easy to imagine cats happily using it, isn't it? The workshop progressed with Mr. Yamauchi pre-making the parts, and participants simply combining and installing them, leading to completion in just 4 hours, from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Some of the participants also do DIY at home, and they were very interested in Mr. Yamauchi's tools and methods, asking questions throughout the workshop. Also, based on Mr. Yamauchi's lecture, participants cooperated with each other to create the parts, and it seems that connections were formed through their shared love for cats and DIY. And here is the completed catwalk! A catwalk where cats can enjoy themselves to their heart's content has been created at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka.
A participant immediately brought their cat from home, and although a little hesitant at first, the cat played on the freshly made catwalk. It goes without saying that this sight was irresistible to cat lovers, and a photo session began.

Through this workshop, Room 101 of Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka has been reborn as a "share house where you can live with cats."
